Charles Hardin Holley, better known as Buddy Holly was born on 7th September 1936 and died in a plane crash on 3rd February 1959. Holly recorded That’ll Be The Day with his band The Crickets, and Coral Records, a subsidiary of Decca, signed him and his band. The single was a resounding success worldwide. British singer-songwriter Christopher Anton Rea was born on 4th March 1951 in Middlesbrough. After singing with several bands, he acheived great success by pursuing a solo career and signing to the Magnet label. His first album Whatever Happened to Benny Santini? in 1978 went gold in the U.S. and the hit single Fool (If You Think It’s Over) was released from this album. His subsequent album releases New Light Through Old Windows, Road To Hell and Auberge gave him huge success on both sides of the Atlantic. Following a remarkable recovery from cancer, Chris Rea has returned to the Blues roots of music and released several successul albums on his own record label. Take That was a ‘boy band’ formed in Manchester, England in 1990 and comprised of songwriter Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, and Robbie Williams. The BBC said at the time that the band was “the most successful British band since the Beatles, beloved of young and old alike”. Take That released their first single in 1991 and despite enormous success, they broke up just five years later. Back For Good was released from their 1995 album Nobody Else. Otis Redding was born on 9th September 1941 and died 10th December 1967. He was an influential American soul singer, known for his passionate performances. Sittin’ On the Dock of the Bay was a posthumous hit single and his greatest hit. The song became famous a year after his death when his plane crashed into Lake Monona. British soul-pop band Simply Red was formed in 1984 by singer Mick “Red” Hucknall. The band’s original line up was Hucknall, Tony Bowers (bass), Fritz McIntyre (keyboards), Tim Kellett (brass), Sylvan Richardson (guitar) and Chris Joyce (drums). The group signed to Elektra Records and released the album Picture Book in 1985. The immensely successful single Holding Back the Years, written by Hucknall, caused the album to go platinum, and made the group one of the major successes of 1986.
