American-born singer and actress Irene Cara was born Irene Escalera in New York on 18th March 1959. Her performance of “Flashdance (What A Feeling)”, from the movie Flashdance earned her the 1983 Academy Award for Best Song and the 1984 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
