Formed in 1967 by Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks, British progressive rock group Genesis was managed by Jonathan King. The band had major success in the 70s, 80s and 90s. “Fire & Rain” was a hit single for James Taylor, released from his Sweet Baby James album in 1970. The song was inspired by his time spent in a mental asylum and the suicide of a friend. A three-piece British pop-rock band, The Police were one of the most successful musical groups in the world from the late 1970s through to the mid-1980s. Comprised of three musicians, Stewart Copeland, Sting, and Andy Summers, The Police are notable as one of the first mainstream white pop groups to adopt reggae as a predominant musical form. “Every Breath You Take” was one of the many successful singles released from their 1983 album Synchronicity. British singer, songwriter and keyboard pioneer Gary Numan was born Gary Anthony James Webb on 8th March 1958. He rose to fame at the end of the 1970s under the band name “Tubeway Army”. In 1979 the single “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?” and debut album Replicas climbed to number one in the charts. A few months later he released “Cars”, which also became a top ten hit. American singer-songwriter and guitarist James Vernon Taylor was born on 12th March 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts. Taylor moved to London and was signed to Apple Records in 1968. He released his debut album James Taylor. Although the album wasn’t initially successful, the success of other singles in the seventies renewed interest and the album and the single “Carolina in My Mind” were propelled back into the charts.
